Great Family Photos

High key shots (Bright and against a brilliant white background) are the current fashion for family portraits. They are quick and easy to do and use very high key lighting usually lit from several directions to avoid shadow areas.

We take great pride in the way we shoot high key because we do it the hard way to get a more flattering style of lighting that also helps slim down a wider fuller face. This is made possible because our background is lit from the rear and as a result throws some side and back-light towards the face which in turn helps slim down the face.

If you look at this family photo we took in our home studio you'll notice the baby has a side lighting on his face on his mothers side and this is how the beauty lighting can slim the face.  The lighting we use not only helps to flatter the baby but also makes him stand out and look more 3 dimensional. It's subtle things like this that makes all the difference.

Where we are very different compared to most high street photographers is that we also do family portraits against mid or low key backgrounds to get visually stunning dramatic shots.

It’s fair to say most of our customers are families of 3 or more so giving this choice of low, mid and high key is very advantageous to us but more importantly to you.

You will notice in this darker low/mid-key shot that there are more shadow areas on the faces and this is very deliberate. For consistency we use flash meters to set the light levels. In this low-key shot the light ratio is set to 4:1.
